What is the Caraga State University?

Caraga State University is the first State University founded in Caraga Region, Philippines. Being the first State university in the region, CSU strives to offer quality education for its students and they ensure that the education they will acquire meets the standards of excellence and quality.

The said institution has two (2) campuses; the main campus is located in Butuan City that offers various programs including engineering, forestry, agriculture and environmental studies, arts and sciences, and information technology. On top of that, the said campus is only a 20-minute ride from the Bacansi Airport. Meanwhile, the other campus of Caraga State University is located in Cabadbaran City which offers courses in business, technology, and vocational and tourism-related courses.

Aside from the courses offered by CSU, the said university also received an ISO certification and has undergone Institutional Accreditation by the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP). Recently, Caraga State University was awarded for ranking 5th among the Top 10 Ranking State Universities and Colleges in the country. Hence, this only proves that the said university is a great school and could compete with other universities and colleges in the country in terms of providing excellence and quality education.

A. Merit Scholarship Programs

1. Academic Full Scholarship Programs

This scholarship program is being offered to the officially enrolled students of Caraga State University who acquired a General Percentile Average of 1.00 and not lower than 1.50. Interested applicants of the said scholarship are obliged to pass their semestral grades duly signed by the campus registrar with the university sealed and they must also fill up the OASFA Profile Form.

Qualified scholarship awardees can receive a 100% tuition fee discount as a scholarship benefit and a free dormitory which is on a first come first serve basis. Students are continuously recognized as university scholars provided they will maintain a general average of 1.00 to 1.50 without having any conflict or disciplinary records.

2. Academic Half Scholarship Programs

This scholarship program is somehow similar to the Academic Scholarship program mentioned above. Both scholarships are under the scholarship programs funded by the University but the only difference is the grade requirement and scholarship percentage that the scholarship applicant must obtain to qualify as a scholarship awardee.

The academic half scholarship program offers a 50 % tuition fee discount if the student applicants generated a general percentile average of 1.51 to 1.75. in line, they must submit their semestral grades duly signed by the campus registrar with the university sealed. Aside from that, they must also fill up the OASFA Profile Form along with other requirements that the scholarship office asked of them.

If the student applicants aim to be scholarship awardee, they must maintain a regular course load prescribed by their curriculum along with the general weighted average of 1.51 to 1.75

3. Entrance Scholarship Program

Another scholarship sponsored by the University is the entrance scholarship program for incoming freshmen students who passed the CSU-SAE or the Caraga State University- Student Admission Examination that have at least 676 quality index classification of aptitude results that is classified as excellent.

Qualified student applicants can enjoy a 100% tuition fee exemption plus a free dormitory fee that has a first come first served basis rule. The student must need to maintain a 1.50 General Percentile Average in order not disqualify for the scholarship, they must also submit the following requirements need for the scholarship application;

  • A copy of Form 138 or the High School Card Photocopy
  • A certification letter coming from the Guidance Counselor indicating that the student applicant passed the CSU-SAE stating the EXCELLENT quality index.
  • CSU Scholarship and Admission Exam result (Photocopy only)

4. Honorific Full Scholarship Program

This is a 100% tuition fee exemption for incoming college freshmen who graduated as a High School Valedictorian from a recognized public or private school with at least 100 classes. Interested applicants of the said scholarship grant are required to submit their Honor Certificate indicating that he or she has graduated Valedictorian including the number of the graduating class that must be signed by the school principal and duly sealed by the campus registrar.

Aside from that, a photocopy of Form 138 or the High School Report Card must also be presented. Eligible scholars must maintain a general weighted average of 1.00-1.50 to continuously recognize as the university scholar under this scholarship program.

5. Honorific Half Scholarship Program

If there is a scholarship intended for Valedictorians, there is also a scholarship available for Salutatorian students. Interested students who graduated as class salutatorians of public or private institutions recognized by the government will be granted an Honorific Half Scholarship Program, a scholarship funded by the University wherein they will acquire a 50% tuition exemption from the said university provided that they must maintain a general weighted average of 1.51 to 1.75.

B. Non-Merit Scholarship Programs

1. Central Student Government President Scholarship

The central student government is a student organization of CSU that are capable of leading the student of the university into well-mannered individual along with school rules in the student manual. This scholarship is usually given to the duly elected president of the whole student body of the said university.

The student scholar can benefit from a 100% tuition fee discount provided that he or she must be an elected CSG President without having failed subjects or incomplete grades. He or she must also be a regular student carrying a regular academic load in the prescribed curriculum.

2. Gold Panicles Editor-In-Chief

The said university has its official student publication known as Gold Panicles wherein is composed of editorial staff including the Editor-in-Chief or the Head Editor. Likewise, the said scholarship grant is given to the editor-in-chief of the said organization and they can acquire a 100% tuition fee discount as a scholarship benefit. However, he or she needs to apply for the scholarship grant and a certification letter that he or she is an incoming editor-in-chief of the Gold Panicles student publication.

3. Athletic Scholarship Grant

The student-athletes are the primary target as a scholarship beneficiary of the athletic scholarship grant. They are the student varsity of different sports and athletic groups of Caraga State University. The said scholarship is classified into two, the athletic full scholar and the athletic half scholar.

The athletic full scholar can receive a 100% tuition fee exemption while 50% for an athletic half scholar. Provided, that the scholar must maintain a sports and academic performance in which the student must maintain a regular subject load without having any failing or incomplete grades in any subject taken. But before that, interested applicants must apply for the athletic scholarship and must pass the certification letter coming from the Sports and Physical Education Director Office.

4. Barangay Officials Legal Dependents Scholarship

In partnership with the Local Government Unit and the DILG, the Barangay Officials Legal Dependents Scholarship is an educational privilege given to both old students and incoming freshmen college students that are incumbent Brgy. Officials certified by DILG or legitimate dependent of any Brgy. Officials like the Brgy. Captain, Brgy. Kagawad and SK Chairman in CARAGA Region that is officially enrolled in CSU. Due to the budget restriction, limited slots are available and all student applicants are subjected to screening and evaluation.

Eligible scholars continuously enjoy a 100% tuition fee discount if they have a General Average of 2.50 or above and they must be regular students with a regular academic load in the prescribed curriculum according to the course they take. They are also required to submit the following documents needed for the application process;

  • Certification coming from DILG that the student applicants are the legitimate dependent of Brgy. Officials.
  • High School Card Photo Copy or the Form 138
  • Photocopy of NSO or Birth Certificate
  • Photocopy of the guardian’s or parent’s ITR.

5. CSU Drum and Lyre Corps Scholarship Grant

The CSU Drum and Lyre Corps Scholarship Grant is a university-administered scholarship intended to offer to all members of CDLC who are qualified as student scholars. Under this scholarship program, they can enjoy a 50% up to 100% educational tuition discount provided, that they don’t have failed, incomplete, or dropped subjects in the course program they enrolled in and they must also carry a regular academic load in which they can be considered as a regularly enrolled student.

6. CSU Employees Legal Dependents Scholarship Grant

The CSU Employees Legal Dependents Scholarship Grant is intended to offer to the legal or legitimate dependent of CSU Regular Employees both Faculty of Administrative Staff. Interested student applicants must not have any grades that are a failure, incomplete, or even dropped out of subjects.

Aside from that, he or she must also be a regularly enrolled student of the said University and must carry a regular academic load wherein they are required to submit the certification coming from the Human Resource Management Officer of the said University proving that the applicants are a legitimate dependent of the Regular CSU Employee and a photocopy of scholarship applicant’s NSO or Birth Certificate and ITR of parent’s or guardian.

7. Culture and Arts- Institutional Arts Group Scholarship

Another scholarship grant is given to the members of the CSU Culture and Arts-Institutional Arts Group.  Students who have versatile talents in culture and arts are recognized in the University through this group and the scholarship being offered to them. The scholars may be a member of any of the following group that plays each responsive role in the university.

  1. Dulimbay Dance or Music Guild
  2. Budjong Ensemble Chorale
  3. Kayam Ethno Band

Interested scholarship applicants enjoy a Php 1,200 every semester if they don’t have failing, incomplete, or dropped grades in which they carried a regular academic student load.
