The University of Cebu (UC) offers a range of scholarship programs to help deserving students, especially those facing financial challenges, access quality education. These grants and financial assistance options ease the cost of schooling while supporting students throughout their chosen courses.
UC consistently produces board exam topnotchers in fields like Engineering, Nursing, Accounting, Criminology, and Maritime Studies. Its young law school has also placed graduates in the Top 10 of the Bar exams for consecutive years. What Is the University of Cebu?
Founded in 1964 by Atty. Augusto W. Go, the University of Cebu is a private, non-sectarian institution in Cebu City offering both basic and higher education. Known as the country’s largest private university, UC is built on the principles of nationalism, humanity, and academic excellence, with five campuses across the city, including the UC School of Medicine.
UC operates five campuses across Cebu City, including the UC School of Medicine:
- Main Campus – Sanciangko Street
- Banilad Campus – Gov. Cuenco Ave., Brgy. Banilad
- UC Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue Campus – Mandaue City
- UC Maritime Education and Training Center – Alumnos St., Mambaling
True to its mission, UC continues to support financially underprivileged yet deserving students through scholarships and financial assistance that encourage both personal and professional growth. The list below details all the scholarship programs available at the University of Cebu that you may apply for.
1. Academic Scholarship for College Students
This scholarship grant is being offered to incoming first-year college students who academically excelled during their High School year and want to enroll in the University of Cebu. They are the students who graduated with Academic Honors and want to study any undergraduate courses except for Nursing and Information Communication Technology (ICT) in the said university.
Interested students who wish to apply for the said scholarship grant may have a general weighted average (GWA) of not less than 1.7. Most likely, they usually get the High School Valedictorians who can avail of a full fee grant of tuition fees, miscellaneous fees, laboratory fees, and registration fees plus the additional book allowance of Php 1,000 in the whole school semester.
Aside from that, the high school salutatorian can also avail of the full fee grant of tuition fees, miscellaneous fees, laboratory fees, and registration fees while the 1st to the 5th honorable mention can receive a 50% tuition fee discount while the 6th to the 10th honor can receive a 30% tuition fee discount. The required documents needed for the scholarship application include the following;
- Form 138 or the High School Card
- Certification that the applicants graduated with Honors duly signed by the principal of the school
- Two pieces of 2×2 colored ID picture
- Long size white folder
- Two Index cards with the applicant’s personal information;
- Complete Name
- Complete address
- Contact number
- Parent or Guardian’s name with contact number
2. Working Scholarship
Another scholarship grant is being offered to interested students who want to pursue their studies while experiencing office work and other on-the-job training in the university’s offices. Working scholars can acquire a full free tuition fee, monthly allowance, and training exposure while rendering services in the working office of the university.
The students who are interested to apply under this program shall render at least 4 to 5 hours of service every day, must possess a good moral attitude, and exhibit a great interest in studies without having any failing and incomplete grades, dropped subjects and the like that may lead to disqualification of the working scholarship grant. Additionally, the student applicants must meet the following required qualifications to be eligible for the scholarship grants;
- Grades above 85 percent for incoming college students
- Grades above 2.5 for continuing college students
- Must pass the IQ exams and Personality Test that was being administered by the Guidance Office of the said university.
3. Cultural Scholarship
The cultural scholarship program is a scholarship grant given to those students who have potential and skills when it comes to culture and arts and take an active part in a recognized cultural organization under the Student Cultural Services. This is to boost the student’s motivation to achieve a high academic performance along with their great interest in culture and arts.
The eligible scholars can receive a 50% to 100% tuition fee discount depending upon the performance rendered by the students to the university, most especially if they exhibit exceptional performances in which they can be able to have a chance to be trained and compete locally, nationally, and internationally plus the additional allowances earned from the competitions.
4. Athletics and Sports Scholarship
Students who are athletically engaged and those who are part of the varsity team of the different sports in the University of Cebu like basketball, volleyball, baseball, athletics, swimming, chess, sepak takraw, karatedo, table tennis, and softball are encouraged to apply in the said scholarship grant.
Qualified applicants can receive a discount and privileges ranging from a 10% tuition fee discount to a full free scholarship depending upon the performances of the student-athlete plus additional allowance and incentives if they will meet the expectations of the university. Coordinators and trainers of various sports are in charge of evaluating the performances of the students by granting an endorsement if they are qualified to receive the scholarship or not.
5. Peer Facilitator Scholarship
The Peer Facilitators are the students who render services under the Guidance Office of the said university and they are the ones who assist the operations and other student activities of the said office of the university. If they are qualified and deserving to receive the scholarship grant they can receive a tuition fee grant ranging from 50% to 100% depending upon the number of services that the student render along with the work performances of the students to be assessed and recommended by their superior in the office. The Peer Facilitators’ Scholars will be evaluated according to the three (3) classifications.
- Seniors that continuously render 3 years of service.
- Junior that continuously renders two (2) years of service, and
- PF Volunteers or those students who did not make the scholarship grants because of the unavailability of the slots.
6. Maritime International Scholarship Grants
The University of Cebu extended its generosity and camaraderie by providing a scholarship grant to those students who are interested to take into the journey of seafaring which is successfully done in collaboration with the following organizations like the Norwegian Ship Owner Association (NSA), International Maritime Employees Committee (IMEC) and the Inter-Orient Navigation Corporation (INC).
Deserving students who are qualified to receive this grant can receive a full free scholarships fee like the tuition fee, miscellaneous fees, and other school fees plus the free board, lodging, books, and uniforms and a chance to travel worldwide during the apprenticeship and an opportunity to be hired in the Norwegian board vessels. The following documents are required in the application for the scholarship grants;
- Original and certified copy of high school card with a minimum grade of at least 85% of the general weighted average.
- Original and photocopy of birth certificate
- 1 pc. Of 2×2 colored picture
Important Note: The height of the applicants must be 5’3 for males and 5’2 for females and must be 16-22 years of age upon application.
